In today’s rapidly urbanizing world, cities face challenges such as waste accumulation, environmental degradation, and loss of green spaces. This project focuses on upcycling and regenerating urban spaces to promote sustainability, creativity, and green skills development.
By repurposing discarded materials, intergrating sustainable design principles, and promoting community paticipation, this initiative will create green hubs that support biodiversity, enhance air quality and provide educational opportunities. This Project envisions a future where cities are more sustainable, inclusive and resilient, demonstrating that waste can be a resource and that community-driven action can redefine urban landscapes for the better.
By transforming abandoned or underutilized areas into eco-friendly community hubs, we aim to:
► transform abandoned urban spaces into green, functional community areas.
► develop hands-on workshops to teach practical green skills.
► promote collaboration between students, teachers, policymakers, and communities.
This project not only revitalizes urban spaces but also serves as a model for sustainable development, empowering communities to lead the transition toward greener cities.
The main objectives of the project are:
► Train the students and the teachers on sustainable management and efficient use of natural resources
► Mainstream sustainable development in secondary school’s curricula
► Raise local, national and European awareness about the environment issues of climate change challenges
To achieve this UPSPACE will:
► develop a future oriented curricula for school teachers and students improving their green skills.
► implement upcycling workshops and urban regeneration labs.
► mainstream sustainable development goals in schools.
Through this initiative, we can bridge education, environmental awareness, and sustainable urban development, empowering future generations to lead the way toward greener, more livable cities.
The project partnership is led by CESIE ETS, Italy and consists of seven other partners with complementary experience and skills in the related field from Germany, Serbia, Italy and Greece.
